"The Cat in the Hat" sculpture was carved on-site from a red oak tree
that had been struck by lightning. The Library received official permission
from the Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss) estate to have the Cat in the Hat's likeness
made, as long as the tree had been salvaged and not cut down for the sculpture.
This chain-saw carved sculpture stands approximately nine feet in height. The sculptor, Gary Pattersen, is from Stanton, MO.
