The Architectural Park along the Mississippi Riverfront is comprised of sixteen sculptures or forms intended to represent human habitats along the river. The forms are intended to evoke a sense of roof lines found in the Quad Cities area -from Native American wikiup lodges to the turrets of Victorian-era buildings. Reaching a height of thirty feet, the forms are arranged in a landscaped circle 132 feet in diameter. Plaques will be placed to explain the significance of the various structures. Pedestrian paths will crisscross the circle.
The project, coordinated by Quad-City Arts, has been in the works for more
than two years and is currently is being constructed at its site. With Lori
Roderick as its lead artist, the project is intended to involve the whole community.
Community participants include: the donation of construction fees by Story Construction
Co. to install the forms; donation of staff by the Putnam Museum for research;
donation of preliminary drawings by architect John Gere; and volunteer participation
by Navy Seabees, W.G. Block, and Bob White Masonry.
