"The River Styx" is one of two murals in the lot of the Oasis service station by Pat Collins, a Quad Cities artist. The subject of the twenty-four foot painting (the smaller mural) is derived from the Mississippi River as it passes through the Quad Cities. Collins has, however, transformed this scene into a personal narrative with the inclusion of symbolic objects that are based, in part, on his travels in the Soviet Union.
The mural was wholly funded by Ahmad S. Vossoughi, the Oasis' owner, and Pat Collins.
