"Spirit of Place" is located on the site of the original John Deere foundry. This location is now a beautiful open space between the Mississippi River, the Mark of the Quad-Cities and a hotel/restaurant complex. This work is one of several large sculptures created by Beverly Pepper at John Deere Foundry, East Moline, Illinois. Along with Trapezium, this is a pioneer work in the use of ductile iron.

Beverly Pepper, an internationally known sculptor, was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1924.
