This bronze figure marks the grave of Robert Alexander, a
Marine fighter pilot, who died on September 30, 1943. Alexander flew with
famed Col. Gregory "Pappy" Boyington and his Black Sheep Squadron
in the Pacific Theater. The memorial was dedicated on July 9, 1947.
The 51" figure stands atop a large, rough block of granite. On this stone
block is the inscription: "This memorial honors the American flyers of
World War II who offered their lives that their country might remain free."
