Illiniwek Forest Preserve
Hampton, Illinois

The Nature Spiral is located at the Illiniwek Forest Preserve on the Mississippi River near Hampton, Illinois. It uses a spiral arrangement of boulders to interpret the River's natural resources. Forty-two drawings by Blacklock of indigenous animals, plants and insects were sandblasted into the rocks. Native wildflowers, plants and trees have been planted amongst the boulders. As part of the RiverWay project, more than 50 people helped with the project.
