by Jerry Shirley and James Bentley 1964 |
This aggregate concrete sculpture is the result of a collaboration
between an architect, James Bentley, and artist, Jerry Shirley.
Cast at Moline Consumers concrete, it was installed at the Davenport
Museum of Art in 1974.
James Bentley refers to the planes and folded concrete style as "architectonic". Within the folds lies an abstract figure with arms reaching upward, casting symbols of communication into the air.
Originally, the sculpture was designed for the telephone company and located on the front wall, southwest corner of the building at 6th and Main Streets. When the building was redesigned, the sculpture was removed and donated to the museum by Priester Construction.
