Sunset Park
Rock Island, Illinois
"The Tree of Life" is comprised of a twenty-five foot concrete circle that has a symbolic image of the Mississippi River. The river is metaphorically presented as a tree -a tree of life. Each branch (tributary) reaches toward a wildlife image laser-cut into an aluminum panel. The sculpture is located on the south side of Potter's Lake near 18th Avenue, at the head of the Great River Trail
Jim Turner has also created an iron fountain on Sylvan Island, Moline. This work represents the industries that once were on the island. Ice harvesting, stone quarry and crushing, the steel industry and hydroelectric power are represented.
