General Information
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble at Western Illinois University is a highly select group of 50-55 wind and percussion players. The literature performed represents the finest in wind band literature from all historical periods. The Ensemble has recorded 5 CD's in the past years, examples of which are available on this site, and has been chosen to perform at numerous local, state, region, and national venues including the College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference, and this year Orchestra Hall in Chicago. The ensemble tours throughout Illinois and at selected Midwestern regions each year performing for numerous high school instrumental students and for communities. For the past 20 years, the group has presented a special "President's Concert" performance to honor the President of Western Illinois University. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is conducted by the Director of Bands at Western Illinois University, Mike Fansler.
