General Information
The Jazz Institute is designed for educators who want to further their understanding of jazz pedagogy. Each year, the jazz faculty at Western Illinois University host a one-day institute with one-hour workshops aimed at teaching educators how to help students learn the techniques of performing jazz. Workshops have included the following topics:
- Teaching Jazz Improvisation
- Practicing Jazz with Technology
- Constructing Walking Bass Lines
- Basic Voicing for Piano
- Jazz Drumming Techniques
- Jazz Styles and the Big Band
- Essential Listening Resources
- The Jazz Saxophonist
- Lead Trumpet
- The Art of Jazz Trombone: Alternate Positions
Six sessions are usually offered during the day and lunch is provided for all participants. The fee for the Jazz Institute is $100.00.
