Advising

Advising is an important function of our department. This page has been designed to help you learn more about our program, communicate with the graduate program coordinator and our departmental secretary, and enable you to obtain graduate application materials and Graduate School and Department of Biological Sciences forms and documents.

Applicants and new students are advised by Dr. Timothy Spier, the graduate program coordinator, until they have been accepted by a research advisor.

The research advisor mentors graduate students about course selection, program requirements, thesis research or an advanced project, and career goals. During the pre-registration period, please contact your research advisor to assist you in selecting courses for the next semester.

If you do not have a research advisor, contact Dr. Timothy Spier (TW-Spier@wiu.edu) for advising. If you need additional help in making an appointment with an advisor, contact our departmental secretary (see below) in Waggoner 372 for assistance.
