  • Thomas Van Heuklon, geography department, published Parts 1 and 2 of "Fatal C&NW Wreck at Monico, WI, Feb. 8, 1934" in spring and summer issues of NorthWestern Lines. It suggests operating crew hypothermia as a contributing cause to the accident. Temperature was -35 F that night.
  • Charles O'Brien, WIU professor emeritus of history, published Death of a Robber Baron (Kensington, 2013), the first in his new historical mystery series. Set in 1893 in New York City and the Berkshires, it features Pamela Thompson, well-born lady turned private investigator. Kirkus Reviews praises the novel's "strongly characterized suspects who keep the readers guessing." O'Brien is the author of Mute Witness (2001) and eight other novels in the acclaimed Anne Cartier series set in eighteenth century France. O'Brien lives with his art historian wife, Elvy, in Williamstown, MA. For more information, visit www.charlesobrien.us
