Alphons J. Richert Scholarship in Psychology Clinical/Community Mental Health Program
Criteria:
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be accepted to the Western Illinois University School of Graduate Studies and be enrolled in the Psychology Clinical/Community Mental Health Program
Terms:
Amount of award will be at least $1,000 annually and will be applied to the recipient's student account, divided between fall and spring semesters. Based on fund availability, the Department of Psychology (Clinical/Community Mental Health Program faculty) may determine to increase the amount of the award or make multiple awards at their discretion.
Selection Process:
The faculty of the Clinical/Community Mental Health program will select recipient(s)

The Bettye D. Thompson Scholarship in Gerontology
Criteria:

Class level: Student must be at least a Sophomore and have completed at least 9 s.h. of the following:
- Gerontology 200 - Introduction to Gerontology
- Psychology 423G - Psychology of Adulthood and Aging
- Sociology 405 - Sociology of Aging in Rural and Urban American
- or three (3) s.h. from the approved list of electives
- Student must have at least a cumulative total GPA of 3.0 and GPA of 3.0 in the Gerontology minor
- Major/Minor: Student must be a declared minor in Gerontology
- Student must be a United States Citizen
Terms:
Award of $500 divided equally between fall and spring semesters
Selection Process:
Applicants must provide the following items:
- a letter indicating their interest and career plans in gerontology
- scholarship application
- official transcript showing their declared major and minor
Selection of awardee will be made by the Gerontology Scholarship Committee. Applications will be evaluated after the spring semester of each year.

Donald J. Poindexter Award
Criteria:

First Preference to:
- Entering freshman who graduated from Peoria Manual High School
- Minimum 3.3 GPA
- Graduate in upper 25% of high school class
- Psychology major
- Ethnic minority

- Currently enrolled WIU student who is a graduate from Peoria Manual High School
- Minimum 3.3 GPA
- Minimum of 30 semester hours completed at WIU

Eric Ward Teaching Assistants Fund
Criteria:
Student must excel in statistics and serve/have served as an assistant in helping other students learn statistics
Terms:
Assistantships will carry a stipend and require approximately eight hours of work per week for the 16 week semester. The number of awards will depend on the availability of funds and payments will be made through Payroll
Selection Process:
Each semester a psychology department committee, composed of faculty who teach the statistics course PSY223, will evaluate nominations from statistics instructors for teaching assistantship awards for the next semester
Additional Information:
Each assistant will be assigned to a faculty member who is teaching a section of undergraduate statistics

James E. Ackil Research Award
Criteria:
- Completed an independent research project in neuroscience. Research carried out in order to assist someone else with his or her project does not qualify.
- Undergraduate or graduate class level, with priority to undergraduate students
Terms:
At least one student each year (or more than one, depending on availability of funds) will be selected to receive a monetary research award of $150 ( or more if funds allow).
Selection Process:
Students will be nominated for this award. Nominated students will need to submit a face sheet and 400-word abstract with a copy of the completed project. The undergraduate Services Committee will make the award based on the quality of the research project. The recipient(s) will be acknowledged at the Spring Awards Ceremony.

Criteria:
- Psychology major
- Demonstrate superior scholarly and professional performance at WIU
Terms:
Award is usually $100 and given in one semester. The department determines the award amount.
Selection Process:
The Department of Psychology screens all majors as well as requesting nominations from department faculty. Awards are usually made in the spring semester.

Lori Lynne Myers School Psychology Scholarship
Criteria:
- Graduate students in the Department of Psychology
- Completed first year of training
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to the profession of school psychology, high standards of professional behavior, and outstanding academic achievements in coursework and practica.
Terms:
Advertised award amount will be determined each year based on the annual interest earnings on the endowment. Award will be applied to the student's university account ½ fall and ½ spring. Failure of the student to remain in good academic standing or to make satisfactory progress toward a degree may result in withdrawal of the scholarship.
Selection Process:
Recipient will be selected by a scholarship committee consisting of the Chair, Department of Psychology, two School Psychology faculty members and one graduate of the School Psychology program who is working as a school psychologist.

Criteria:
- First preference to a senior with a minor in gerontology
- Second preference to a senior Psychology student performing gerontology research
- Third preference to a senior or graduate student majoring in Psychology

Award amount varies based on funding. The award will be applied to the student's university account ½ fall and ½ spring
