Education

Dr. John Determan was born and raised in central Minnesota in a small town called Long Prairie. He received his B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota - Morris. Upon graduating, he left the bitter cold of west central Minnesota to attend graduate school in the blazing heat of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas in Physical Inorganic Chemistry under the direction of Dr. Angela Wilson and Dr. Mohammad Omary. Once he finished his degree, he worked as a postdoc at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA, computationally modeling nonlinear optics under the direction of Dr. Jean-Luc Bredas and as a postdoc at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX, computationally modeling heterogenous catalysis on metal clusters and nanoribbons under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Janesko. He enjoys traveling, cooking, fishing and reading when not teaching.
