Bonnie received her B.S. and teaching certificate in English and public speaking at Winona State University in Minnesota, and then taught high school for 12 years in Minnesota, Iceland, Germany and Texas before she returned to school (in Texas) to receive an M.A. in Developmental Education with an emphasis in basic writing and reading. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in 2003 in Language, Literacy and Culture and came to WIU that same year. She works with pre-service teachers in the English Education program where she teaches Composition for Teachers, Topics in English Education and Methods in Secondary English. In her spare time, she rides her Missouri Foxtrotter, Belle, makes quilts, reads and writes. She spends her summers in Montana recovering(!) and helping a friend move cattle around the Kootenai National Forest in northwest Montana. She loves WIU, her students, and the neighbors in Macomb she is lucky enough to have around her.  She welcomes conversations about teaching and encourages students to contact her if/when they have questions about joining the profession.
