Application and Admission 

Students requesting admission to the Master's Program in English are asked to submit materials that will enable the graduate committee to accurately evaluate your scholarly potential and fit with the program.

To apply to the program:

  1. Read our suggestions for preparing application materials , and contact us if you have any questions.
  2. Fill out the appropriate general online application for admission form and pay the application fee.
  3. If you wish to be considered for an assistantship, please contact the School of Graduate Studies.
  4. Send the following materials to the School of Graduate Studies:
  5. 1-2 page personal statement articulating your larger purposes and career goals, and how an MA in English will further those goals.
  6. Three letters of recommendation (may also be used for the graduate assistantship application, if applicable).
  7. 10-15 page scholarly writing sample, such as an essay from an upper-division English course (not creative).
  8. Official transcripts from ALL institutions attended. It will be necessary for you to request the Registrar of each institution to mail an official transcript of your credit directly to the Graduate Office.
