Linda Ray Pratt is Interim Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Nebraska-
Lincoln. Previously she served as the Chair of the Department of English. Pratt received her Ph.D.
from Emory University in l971. She teaches courses in Victorian literature and Modern Poetry. Her
publications are in l9th century literature and early modern poetry, as well as on topics in higher
education. Pratt is a former president of the national American Association of University Professors
(1992-94). In 2002 she was president of the Association of Departments of English. Her recent
publications include "Matthew Arnold Revisited" and "Will Budget Cuts Reshape Higher
Education?" in Academe (Jan.-Feb.) 2003.
