National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Affiliate 


Western Illinois University's chapter of NCTE works to promote and support teachers of English at the elementary, middle, secondary, and college levels. Member attend and present at local and national conferences, sponsor speakers and events around the teaching of English Language Arts, and participate in service activities that support community schools and literacy programs. In addition, NCTE hosts a Spring Conference at WIU each year with presentations by area teachers and a national keynote speaker.

Illinois Assc. of Teachers of English (IATE):

  • Contains information about professional development opportunities in Illinois. Students and first year teachers get free membership. 

Illinois Certification Testing System:

  • Sign up to take the Basic Skills, Content and APT tests, and look up scores for tests. Also has study guides for tests.

WIU's Center for the Preparation of Education Professionals

  • Has information about block and student teaching experiences. Also, contains information about the Western Teacher Work Sample, evaluations, candidate dispositions, and the CPEP handbook.
