Clara was born in Canton, about 45 minutes east of Macomb, and moved here in 1995 after retiring from the Air Force. She and her family spent 20 years living in places such as Japan, Nebraska, Indiana, Louisiana and Michigan.

She and her husband Paul will soon celebrate their 37th wedding anniversary in April of 2013. The Carrigans are nothing if not a Western family! Paul currently works in the Government Publications section in the Malpass Library. They have two grown children - Joshua, was 31 on July 20, and Shandra, who celebrated her 30th birthday on December 7th.

Joshua lives and works at WIU in AIMS as a computer programmer and received his Bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in philosophy in 2008. He celebrated his first wedding anniversary Feb 18th, 2013 with Amy (Brown) Carrigan. Amy works in the WIU Biology department; she got her degree in Political Science here at WIU. She and Josh became the proud parents (and we're 1st time grandparents!) of Logan Wade Carrigan, born on May 8, 2012. Josh and Amy also parent her other 2 sons, Jarrett (11) and Griffin (9).

Shandra lives and works in Des Moines, Iowa, after receiving her WIU Board of Trustees Bachelor’s degree in 2005. She loves being single, but is still looking for Mr. Right.

Clara and Paul also received their Bachelor's degrees from WIU. Clara graduated in 2004 cum laude with a degree in women's studies, minoring in horticulture and business management, and Paul got his second bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1997.

In her spare time (!), Clara owns and operates one of the newest organic garden centers in west-central Illinois. The Planted Palette is currently an on-line store (www.plantedpalette.com) and you can see Clara selling her wares at various gardening events and farmers markets in the area. She loves talking gardening with anyone she can find!

Clara has worked for the campus for more than 14 years and has been in the E and J department for over 4 years.

She thinks that this department is the best she's ever worked for!
