Why study Geography/GIS or Meteorology at WIU?
Having both geography/GIS and meteorology expertise in one department offers students the opportunity to pair an understanding of cultural aspects and the physical world to address real world problems. Some of the assets of our department are:
- Diverse faculty with a wide range of backgrounds
- Small department with low student/faculty ratio
- Strong hiring tradition through the GIS Center
- Application-oriented learning
- Strong emphasis on undergraduate research
We have a diverse range of research opportunities available to our students. Every student graduating from our department performs research that applies classroom knowledge to real-world applications. Some examples of these opportunities include:
- Class projects
- Senior thesis projects
- Honors Projects
- Master's thesis
- Internships (internal and external)
- Independent study projects
