Latin American History Assistant Professor Position Opening

Western Illinois University's History Department invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Latin American History (broadly defined), with an additional teaching field open. This tenure-track appointment begins with the 2010-11 academic year (21 August 2010 is the contractual starting date).
A Ph.D. in History is preferred; a Ph.D. in History or a related field is required by time of appointment. The successful candidate must have the ability to teach upper-division and graduate courses in Latin American History and upper-division courses in the candidate's other area of specialization, as well as selected introductory survey courses. The Department prefers a candidate with demonstrated excellence in teaching and a strong record of scholarly activity. Continuing excellence in teaching and scholarly productivity are expected once hired, plus participation in non-teaching service activities.
