History Student Organizations Elect New Officers

Both student organizations affiliated with the WIU Department of History held elections recently.
Western's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national History honorary society, held an election on Monday, November 2 to replace Secretary Carl Spath, a senior History Teacher Certification major from Petersburg, who is graduating in December. David Sprung, a History graduate student from La Moille, was elected as Secretary for Spring 2010. He will join President Micca Metz, a senior History major from Fairbury; Vice President Daniel Arndt, a senior History Teacher Certification major from Naperville; and Treasurer Bethany Bekas, a junior History Teacher Certification major from Carol Stream. In addition, Abi Johnson, a senior History Teacher Certification major from Chicago, was elected as the chapter's Director of Fund-raising. Dr. Lee Brice, Associate Professor of History, is the chapter's Faculty Advisor.
The members of the Associated Students of History (ASH) held the organization's annual officer elections on Thursday, November 5, to elect officers for the 2010 calendar year. As of January 2010, ASH's President will be senior History Teacher Certification major Samantha Rocknowski of Bourbonnais. The Vice President of ASH will be Ryan Lootens, a junior from Rock Island majoring in History Teacher Certification. The new Treasurer of ASH will be sophomore Becky Serra, a History Teacher Certification major from Elk Grove Village. The new ASH Secretary will be Chris Wagahoft, a freshman History Teacher Certification major from Taylorville. Dr. Jennifer McNabb, Associate Professor of History, is the organization's Faculty Advisor.
