Asia-Pacific War in History and Memory: History 531 in Fall 2009

In Fall 2009, Dr. Febe Pamonag, Assistant Professor of History at WIU, will offer a graduate reading seminar (History 531) entitled "Asia-Pacific War in History and Memory."
This graduate reading seminar, which will meet on Thursday evenings (6:30 to 9:00 p.m.) will explore how public memory of the Asia-Pacific War was and is shaped and contested inside and outside Japan. Graduate students will examine important historical scholarship and primary sources (written accounts, films, novels, comics, stamps) to explore diverse representations of the past, and their role in shaping historical consciousness. Course requirements include class participation, short papers, presentation on assigned readings, a paper proposal, and a final paper.
