What is it?

The American Mathematics Contest 8 (AMC 8) is a 25 question, 40 minute multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. Schools may register their school with AMC and administer the test. As an alternative, for students at a school which is  not  administering the test, WIU is offering to be a host site so that students who wish to take the AMC may take it through the Department of Mathematics and Philosophy.  Click here for the AMC8 site, where you can download the current brochure.

Who can participate?

This AMC 8 contest is for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

When is the Contest?

Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 5-6 pm.

Where is the Contest?

Room to be determined.

How to Register

(Schools may register themselves with AMC and administer the test at their own school. Schools who decide not to register directly with AMC may register through WIU.)

WIU has registered with AMC as a host site. Teachers may register their students (at no charge) using the linked form.

Schools registering to take the AMC 8 through WIU will receive the following preparation/practice materials:

  • A copy of a previous AMC 8 Contest and answers.
  • Copies of coaching/practice materials.

We have pre-ordered 10 links of the test.  Please register your students on or before Oct. 27.  On Oct. 28 we can order more copies of the test. Registrations may be accepted after Oct. 27, if we have enough tests.
