Anderson named Interim Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences
June 30, 2009
Macomb, Ill. – The College of Arts and Sciences at Western Illinois University has appointed biological sciences chairperson Rick Anderson as interim associate dean for strategic planning and academic affairs effective July 1, 2009. Anderson has been a faculty member in the College since 1979 and has been chairperson since 2001. Anderson has amassed extensive successes in planning and fiscal management, program development and review, faculty recruitment and professional development, and student recruitment and retention.
“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Anderson to the administrative staff of the College,” said College of Arts and Sciences interim dean Susan Martinelli-Fernandez. “His record of achievement as both a faculty member and as administrator is outstanding.” Martinelli-Fernandez further noted that Anderson would remain interim associate dean until a new dean of the College is hired following a national search.
“I look forward to the challenges and opportunities of working at this administrative level during a transitional period for the College,” said Anderson. “The College has a number of new and developing programs which we hope to see expanded and implemented in the new academic year. Despite the current economic issues, I am confident that we will continue to meet the academic demands of our students.”
Anderson’s appointment fills the vacancy left by Dan Wise, who retired from WIU after more than 30 years of service in the geography department and the dean’s office.
