WIU Physics Department visits Camp Point Central and Augusta High Schools

Mar 26, 2010

Physics faculty and interim Chair Dr. Mark Boley, and graduate students Jacob Brown and Aaron Schye visited two high school Physics classes on Thursday, March 25th (12 students at Camp Point Central for the afternoon session 12:30 to 3:00, 7 students at Southeastern of Augusta High School for the morning session, 9:30 to 12:00). The first lab conducted consisted of doing voltage, current, and resistance characteristics of tungsten-filament and carbon-filament light bulbs, including the consideration of V-I graphs for metallic and semiconductor materials. The second lab consisted of mapping the equipotential lines and the electric field lines for the dipole charge configuration and the parallel-plate capacitor configuration. The van de Graaf generator of static electricity was also demonstrated at Camp Point Central.
