Prof. Boley acting as Interim Chair

Professor Mark S. Boley is currently serving as interim chair for the Department of Physics while we are engaged in conducting a national search for a new chairperson. Dr. Boley joined the department faculty in December 1993 following the completion of his Ph.D. in experimental condensed matter physics from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was promoted to his current full-professor position in May of 2002.

Dr. Boley is also an alumnus of the WIU Physics Department, having obtained his B.S. degree in 1987 and his M.S. degree in 1989 from Western Illinois University. He has served as the department's graduate program coordinator since August of 1994 and has sponsored numerous B.S. honors theses and M.S. theses in several different areas of experimental condensed matter physics. His awards include the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award in 1998, and the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Undergraduate Research (Career) and Research/Scholarship Awards in 2005.
