Mediapolis (IA) High School Physics Class Visits WIU Physics Department

Mar 30, 2009

On Monday, March 30, 2009, fifteen students from the Mediapolis (IA) High School physics class along with their teacher, Wendy Palmer, visited the Western Illinois University Physics Department. Students were introduced to the benefits of choosing WIU for majors in Physics and Pre-Engineering and taken on tours of several labs. They then performed experiments involving optical benches, thin lenses, image formation, and 2-D motion video capture. On hand to assist the students performing these laboratory exercises were Professors of Physics, Mark S. Boley and James A. Rabchuk, Physics Laboratory Manager, Eldon Hare, and current students of Physics, Christopher Milby, Joseph Wiewel, and Drake Brewster.

The Physics Department at WIU continues to extend its invitation throughout the rest of this academic school year for local area high schools to bring their physics classes and teachers to the department on day-long or half-day field trips to perform exciting and challenging laboratory exercises that would not be available to their students except through the university.
