Department Welcomes New Faculty Dr. Araya

The WIU Physics Department is very pleased to welcome Dr. Esteban Araya as a new assistant professor and radio astronomer to our department faculty beginning in August 2009. He will be teaching a number of our astronomy courses within the department and leading an observational astronomy research group and outreach program. Dr. Esteban Araya is a native of Costa Rica. He completed his M.S. degree in Physics from the University of Puerto Rico in 2003 and his Ph.D. degree in Physics from New Mexico Tech in 2008, in the field of observational radio astronomy. During the past year, he has held a prestigious Jansky Fellowship from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory while also a postdoctoral associate at the University of New Mexico. His research examines the processes of massive star formation and has resulted in more than 20 peer-reviewed publications.
