Research Opportunities in Anthropology

Students are highly encouraged to work with faculty to develop their own research. The College of Arts & Sciences provides modest support for undergraduate student research.

In addition students may participate in ongoing faculty research projects. Some examples include:

• effects of flooding on rural communities in Illinois
• sustainable local food production
• Gulf coast shrimp fisheries and hurricanes
• water and environmental sustainability in Phoenix, Arizona
• the effects of climate change and rising sea level on small island nations
• human use of medicinal plants
• patterns of biodiversity in fossil primate communities
• functional morphology and fossil primate adaptations
• effect of female participation in fair trade cooperatives on family structures in Middle Eastern communities
• economic participation as a factor in conflict resolution
