The WIU MBA is open to business graduates and those in liberal arts, engineering, mathematics, science, and other fields. Individual degree program requirement are based on previously completed coursework and may range between 33 and 54 semester hours.
Applicants for admission must meet the minimum requirements of the School of Graduate Studies for degree-seeking students. The Director of the MBA program and the MBA advisory committee will review applications and approve candidates for admission based on undergraduate GPA, GMAT score, and other evidence of preparedness. Applicants with bachelor’s degrees in business from AACSB-International accredited institutions with cumulative undergraduate grade point averages of 3.60 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) will not be required to take the GMAT exam.
The GMAT exam measures verbal, mathematical, analytical, and writing skills. It’s an indicator of a student’s ability for academic success in graduate business studies. Most U.S. business schools use the test as criteria for MBA admissions. The test is delivered electronically at testing centers in major metropolitan areas of the U.S. Composite scores range from 200 to 800 points.
For all other applicants, a minimum GMAT score of 450 or better is highly recommended. Most applicants who are accepted into the MBA at WIU have GMAT scores above 500.

MBA Program - Assistantships
The MBA program assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis considering your undergraduate GPA, GMAT scores, and letters of recommendation. There are many qualified applicants and only a limited number of assistantships available. These assistants work specifically with business faculty in the College of Business and Technology.
Assistantships are considered 2/3 time (working 13 hours per week) and currently offer a stipend of $629 per month plus the tuition waiver. Teacher Support Assistants can register for 9-12 semester hours of coursework. The assistantship does not waive University fees.
MBA students who complete an Application for Assistantship (available from the School of Graduate Studies) are automatically eligible for an MBA Program assistantship.
