Quad City Manufacturing Lab

The Quad City Manufacturing Laboratory (QCML), is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization located at Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois. QCML performs research, development, and technology transfer in advanced materials and manufacturing processes such as Laser Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS), Friction Stir Welding (FSW), and Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP).  QCML is managed, operated and staffed by Western Illinois University’s School of Engineering.

QCML's mission is to:

  • Function as a national resource for research and development (R&D) of advanced materials and manufacturing technology for commercial and military applications.
  • Demonstrate and transition cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to partner organizations.
  • Facilitate collaboration among manufacturing, research and educational institutions
  • Partner with the Rock Island Arsenal (RIA) Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (JMTC) and the manufacturing industry to develop and implement technological innovations
  • Promote and sustain job growth in the Quad Cities region
