Kennedy-King Community College Visit

The Western Illinois Black Caucus Mentorship Program, Center for the Study of Masculinities and Men’s Development (CSMMD) and the African American Studies Department hosted a campus visit for 10-15 students from Kennedy-King Community College, Chicago Illinois on November 2nd-3rd, 2012.
A welcoming ceremony and dinner were held on November 2nd for Kennedy-King College attendees. Following the dinner, Mr. Fredrick Douglass Dixon of Kennedy-King Community College gave a lecture followed by a panel presentation themed Black Males in the Culture of Higher Education moderated by Dr. Algerian Hart, KIN.
On November 3rd a program titled Navigating the Landscape was held. The program was a mini Discover Western resource fair, specifically targeted toward these students. Representatives from select departments and organizations gave a short presentation to help these students understand what each organization offers. Immediately following the presentations, the students were given the opportunity to visit the tables and speak directly with representatives to gather information and ask any questions about programs and services. Byron Oden-Shabazz, CSMMD, served as the host for the visit.
