Graduate Reading Specialist Program
Our Reading Specialist Graduate Program (33 s.h.) has been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. This program is designed for teachers seeking the K-12 Reading Specialist endorsement. The Reading Specialist Endorsement in Illinois may be issued as an endorsement on an existing Early Childhood, Elementary, Special or Secondary certificate for service at the grade level of the certificate. This program also provides the coursework needed to earn a K-12 Reading Specialist Endorsement in Iowa (36 s.h.). Reading Specialists can teach reading and provide technical assistance or professional development for teachers. Courses are offered in Macomb, Quad Cities, and Springfield, IL.
Coursework needed to earn one of the Illinois Reading Teacher Endorsements or one of the Iowa Reading Endorsements can be taken at the WIU-QC campus, the Macomb campus, or the Springfield campus. A few of the courses are offered online.
A master’s degree is not required to earn the Illinois Reading Teacher or the Iowa Reading Endorsement.
