Dr. Maroney received a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology/Special Education from the University of Minnesota in 1989, a M.A. in Educational Psychology/Special Education from the University of Minnesota in 1978, and a B.A. in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University in 1975. She has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses at WIU since 1994. From 1988 until 1994, Dr. Maroney taught Special Education in the Education Department of Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, Iowa. Prior to her university positions, Dr. Maroney was employed as a Special Education teacher and/or consultant in Ames, Iowa Falls, and Rock Rapids, Iowa. Dr. Maroney’s areas of expertise include students with emotional and/or behavioral disorders, classroom instruction, and behavioral intervention. Her professional experiences also include leadership positions in the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders and the Iowa Council for Exceptional Children, editorship of Beyond Behavior, and involvement in the Midwest Symposium for Leadership in Behavioral Disorders.
