Lorri Kanauss, Assistant Professor

Lorri Kanauss earned her bachelor's degree in dietetics from Western Illinois University in 1994. She completed her dietetic internship at Indiana University in Indianapolis, IN, in 1995. She then returned to Western Illinois University as a graduate assistant in the department of Education and Interdisciplinary Studies, where she completed a Master's degree in 1997. She completed a second Master's degree in Public Health in 2007 from Walden University. Lorri recently completed her PhD in Public Health from Walden University.


Lorri Kanauss worked as a clinical dietitian at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL, where her clinical experiences included renal dialysis, diabetes, life-management, chemical dependency, medicine, surgery, nutrition support, cardiology and pediatrics. She participated with the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care. She also worked as an outpatient dietitian at the Quincy Medical Group in Quincy, IL, where she educated patients for a variety of conditions, including weight management, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, renal disease, and allergies.

 

Lorri Kanauss has been employed by WIU for 10 years and currently serves as the Dietetic Program Director and Director of the Bella Hearst Diabetes Institute on campus. She is also a program reviewer for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and has earned the Health/Fitness Specialist Certification through the American College of Sports Medicine. She is a member of several professional organizations including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American College of Sports Medicine, American Public Health Association, and the National Wellness Institute. Lorri’s research interest is in the areas of weight management programs, diabetes prevention, and wellness.
