Ida Blanche Bruner, Verlin K. Johnson Family Scholarship

The Ida Blanche Bruner, Verlin K. Johnson Family Scholarshipwas established by Mr. Johnson in honor of his wife, Ida Blanche Bruner.

Mrs. Blanche Bruner was a 1941 graduate of the Western Illinois Family and Consumer Sciences Department. She earned her master's degree from the University of Illinois. Mrs. Bruner taught child development and family life at the University of Illinois and in North Dakota.

The Ida Blanche Bruner, Verlin K. Johnson Family Scholarship is open to junior, senior, or fifth-year students majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis in Child Development, Family Life, and Gerontology at Western Illinois University.

Eligibility criteria for the Ida Blanche Bruner, Verlin K. Johnson Family Scholarship requires that the student:

  1. Be a major in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis in Child Development, Family Life, or Gerontology.
  2. Be as a full-time student at Western Illinois University during the scholarship period.
  3. Be junior standing.
  4. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above.
  5. Have completed one (1) full year of enrollment at WIU.
  6. Demonstrate dependability, leadership and service.
In addition to completing the application form, the student must submit to the Department Chairperson:
  1. WIU transcript AND, where applicable, transcript(s) from all colleges and/or universities attended.
  2. Two letters of recommendation
This scholarship will be awarded annually. The final selection of the recipient for the Ida Blanche Bruncer, Verlin K. Johnson Family Scholarship will be made by members of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department Scholarship Committee.

All applications for scholarships must be recieved by the Department no later than March 1.
