Curriculum Vitae »

I earned my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Iowa. I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Emporia (KS) State University in elementary education and K-12 reading.

I joined the Educational Leadership Department at Western Illinois University in the fall of 2008. Prior to joining the Department, I was the assistant superintendent for the Bettendorf (Iowa) Community Schools for eight years. I spent twenty years in the Davenport Public Schools serving as Title I Reading and Math Instructor, Reading Specialist, Teacher-in-Charge, and the last seven years as Coordinator for Elementary Language Arts/Reading and Social Studies. I also taught in regular elementary classrooms in Kansas. In addition, I have taught undergraduate and graduate classes for Fort Hays State University, Drake University, and Illinois State University.

I have worked extensively in the area of reading, presenting workshops for local school districts in Iowa, Area Educational Agencies, and at state conferences. I served as Iowa State Reading Association president and as a member of the state board for a number of years. I have also done substantial curriculum writing and professional development throughout my career.

Current research interests include educational leadership, data teams, programs and services for special needs students, reading, and student achievement. I have presented at NCPEA, AASA, and NREA.
