Biographical Sketch: Amanda Divin, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at Western Illinois University. She holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and a M.Ed. in Clinical Exercise Physiology from The University of Texas at Austin. Her Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance with a specialization in Health Education and Promotion was earned from Oklahoma State University in July 2009.

Dr. Divin's research interests focus on the health-risk and health-promoting behviors of college students. Her current areas of inquiry include various aspects of nonmedical prescription drug use, stress and its relationship to health behaviors, alcohol and energy drink use, benefits and barriers to physical activity, and the role mental health issues play in health behaviors.

Dr. Divin in active in service on campus and with professional organizations. She is the faculty advisor of the Pi Chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma, national health education honorary, at WIU. Dr. Divin is also an active member of the American Association for Health Education, and regularly reviews national conference proposals and abstracts as well as presides over conference sessions.

Dr. Divin practices a simple, yet profound teaching philosophy: She sees each student as special with something to share who is capable of great things, and she treats them as such. She believes it is her job to help students develop abilities and intellect to fulfill their hopes and dreams.

Prior to doctorate, Dr. Divin spent several years working in a clinical setting conducting cardiovascular exercise stress tests and pulmonary function testing, and in a corporate setting promoting health/wellness at Dell computers. She also hold numerous fitness certifications and has been teaching group exercise since 2000.

In her free time, Dr. Divin enjoys outdoor pursuits with her beloved bichon frise, Sammy, and takes every opportunity to return to her home state of Texas to visit family and friends.
