MSG Sykes Enlisted in the Army in 2005 and attended OSUT as a Cavalry Scout at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He has deployed four times to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Inherent Resolve. He has served in the 25th Infantry Division, 5th Squadron 15th Regiment and 3d Cavalry Regiment. He has served in every position for a Cavalry Scout from a driver to a First Sergeant.

MSG Sykes holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, an Associates in General Studies and is a graduate of the following military courses: Master Leader Course, MSG/Commanders Course, Senior Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Basic Leaders Course, Stryker Leader Course, The Army Reconnaissance Course, Reconnaissance Surveillance Leaders Course, Master Resiliency Course, Master Fitness Course, Joint Fire Observer Course, Drill Sergeant School, Combat Life Savers Course and Equal Opportunity Course.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal with C Device (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation (1 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (5 knots), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (4 Stars), Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal (1 Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (6), North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal. He is authorized to wear the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge Wheeled, and Marksmanship Qualification Badge Expert with Carbine.

MSG Sykes is married to Mrs. Erika Sykes and together they have two children; Eva who is an Army 2LT and Dorian Sykes, a dual H.S. senior and a Spoon River College student.
