Come learn about “mobile tagging”. QR codes are popping up everywhere. They link the physical world with the virtual by providing on-the-spot access to descriptive language and online resources for objects and locations. QR codes support experiential learning, bringing learning out of the classroom and into physical experience. Smartphone required or willingness to work in groups.

A2 - There Really Is an App for That!–iTouch/iPhone/iPad for Education

It’s Not Just About Music Anymore! Replace that backpack full of study aides with an iTouch/iPhone/iPad loaded with Education apps. These apps can teach or be used as a reference. Brush up on a new language, define a word, learn the name of a bone, or prep for the SAT. This session will look at some of the most popular education apps and you will have time to search for your own top picks.

A3 - iMovie—Hollywood Style!

Ever wonder how the weatherman or the latest Hollywood blockbuster superimposes images behind them? Well, all it takes is a green sheet, a couple of lights, and Apple’s movie-editing software, iMovie, and you can transport your students to the moon, back in history, or on top of the world. In this class you will learn how to use iMovie and use the effect called green screen. We will shoot video in front of a green screen and replace it with anything you can imagine. This workshop will be hands-on, fun, and it is a sure way to excite your students. Participants are asked to not wear green on the day of the workshop.

A4 - Create and Animate with Clay Animation

Spend an exciting 3 hours developing a story, creating characters, shooting pictures and combining images! All participants will combine important story telling techniques while learning basic skills necessary to create clay animation.

A5 - All Things Google

In this session you we will consider which of Google's dozens of programs may be applicable to the educational setting. Then specifically, we will focus on only a handful of the many apps Google supports and maintains. This session will teach you not only to hone your search skills, but also to consider other applications that can be integrated into your curriculum: Images, Squared, Timeline, News, and Lit Trips, are just a few of the programs you will learn about and with which you will receive hands-on training.

Upon completion of this 6 hour workshop you will have the option to register as a graduate student and complete the course for graduate credit, or to earn additional CPDUs through STAR-Online. Stipends are available for teaching students how to play Bridge and for coaching school bridge teams.

B1 - Learn to Communicate with Glogster and Prezi
John Closen and Stuart Yeager

Glogster is a social network that allows users to create free interactive posters, or glogs. The glog, short for graphical blog, is an interactive multimedia image. It looks like a poster, but readers can interact with the content.

Prezi is a web-based presentation application and storytelling tool that uses a single canvas instead of traditional slides. Text, images, videos and other presentation objects are placed on the infinite canvas. The canvas allows users to create non-linear presentations, where users can zoom in and out of a visual map.
