Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) is the International Honor Society for counseling students, counselor educators, and professional counselors. Its mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the field of counseling.
At Western Illinois University, the Xi Chapter was reactivated in the fall of 2002. Executive Board positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraiser, and Membership. This Chapter of CSI is utilizing technology in an innovative way to connect with Macomb students and those outside of the Quad City area by holding teleconference meetings and by utilizing chat rooms.
The Xi Chapter offers a Mentoring Program, in which new students in the program are given the opportunity to have a seasoned counseling student assist them with questions regarding the counseling programs. The Chapter organizes community events and conducts NCE study sessions in the spring of each semester.
Membership is awarded to both students and graduates of the WIU Department of Counselor Education. Students must complete 18 hours of graduate coursework in counselor education, have earned a grade point average of 3.75 or better, and be recommended for membership in CSI by the chapter.
If you are interested in becoming an Executive Board member or an active member, please contact the faculty advisor, Dr. Leslie W. O'Ryan at 309-762-1876 or e-mail her at lw-o-ryan@wiu.edu . For more information, please visit the Chi Sigma Iota website at www.csi-net.org .
