Wilderness First Responder Certification
Course Dates: March 9-17, 2013
Course Description: Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA) Wilderness First Responder (WFR) training is a nationally recognized program that prepares participants to handle emergencies in remote settings. The 72 hour curriculum meets all the new DOT National Standards for First Responder with additional protocols for extended care situations. Curriculum topics include but are not limited to: wilderness protocols for delayed/prolonged transport, trauma management, patient assessment, wilderness rescue, and backcountry medicine. Emphasis is placed on prevention and decision making, not on memorization of lists.
Certifications: Upon successful completion of practical and written exams you will receive WMA's Wilderness First Responder and Anaphylaxis Workshop certifications, valid for three years, plus American Heart Association CPR certification.
Deadline to Register: Please register by February 3, 2012 to ensure course enrollment. After February 3, please check availability, as spots may still be available.
Registration and Cancellation: A non refundable deposit of $300 is required to reserve your place in the course. Payment must be made by check payable to WIU Horn Field Campus. We do not accept credit cards. The remaining total amount is due upon arrival. A full refund will be given if the course is cancelled. PLEASE NOTE THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER. A minimum number of registrants is required to proceed with the course. Register early!
Fees: $650 before January 27; $700 after January 27 ($300 is due at the time of registration with remaining balance due upon arrival.)

Wilderness First Responder Recertification
Course Dates: March 18-20, 2013
Course Description: The Wilderness First Responder Recertification is a 16 hour course which reviews the curriculum of the WFR. You will be recertified for three years upon course completion.
Course Prerequisite: You must have current WFR and CPR certification from WMA to enroll in this course. You will also be required to complete a study packet that the WMA national office will send directly to you. Bring this packet to the recertification class.

General Information for Both Courses
Travel: Horn Field Campus is located one mile south of Macomb, Illinois. Driving directions and map will be sent with the registration confirmation packet. Air travel can be arranged through the Quad Cities and the Peoria regional airports or through major airports in Chicago and St. Louis. Macomb is also served daily by two Amtrak trains originating in Chicago.

Class Format & Setting: Courses meet at the HFC Lodge and begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. Expect to spend mornings in the classroom, afternoons in rescue simulations, and evenings studying and working on assignments. You are required to attend all scheduled classes. The required text will be sent to you by HFC before you arrive for the course.
Meals & Lodging: Dormitory-style housing is available for no additional charge, along with a small kitchen and refrigeration for cooking on your own. Macomb has several grocery stores along with an modest assortment of restaurants.
Course Registration & Cancellation Policies: The course fee covers textbooks, instructor fees, housing, equipment, and all exam fees. A deposit of one half of the total course fee is required to reserve your place on the course. This deposit is non refundable should you withdraw from the course. The total amount is due upon arrival. A full refund will be given if we are forced to cancel the course for any reason.
Required Equiment: Large daypack, water bottle, rain gear, comfortable and warm clothing, a watch with a second hand, bedding and toiletries, and a set of old clothes that can be damaged during simulations.
