Matt Eaton - Corps Manager, Phantom Regiment - Rockford, IL

Mr. Matthew Eaton is currently Associate Director of Bands for the Freeport School District #145 in Freeport, Illinois. He began his teaching career in 1991 as Instrumental Music Teacher at Chadwick/Milledgeville Schools. He serves as Principal Percussionist in the Dixon Municipal Band, Rockford Wind Ensemble, and the Rock Valley College Community Concert Band. Mr. Eaton has been a guest soloist with the Freeport High School Symphonic Band, Dixon Municipal Band, Sterling Municipal Band, and the Rockford Summer Concert Band. He is an alumni member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois and an alumni member of the Western Illinois University Drumline. He also serves as an instructor for the Phantom Regiment's Rockford Rhythm Youth Drumline.

Dwight Emmert - Director of Fine Arts, Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation - Evansville, IN

Dwight Emmert currently serves the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation as Director of Fine Arts, a position created in 2013 to expand the growth of Fine Arts education. Previously, this renewed emphasis was focused on instrumental music when Mr. Emmert accepted the Coordinator of Instrumental Music position in 2011. Emmert is proud of EVSC's commitment to the arts and has witnessed the growth of existing programs and new programs. Through additional staffing, financial support and renewed emphasis, EVSC student participation has soared to exciting numbers. A special mark for the EVSC is its Honors program (Band, Choir, and Orchestra) that serves over 800 students annually. Emmert currently conducts the two middle and the high school versions of the Honors Bands.

Emmert's teaching career started in 1989 and has included positions at: Gibson Southern High School, Owensville Community School, and FJ Reitz High School in Indiana and Mariner High School in Florida. The accomplishments of his musical ensembles are numerous: Indiana and Florida State Marching Champions, many other marching finalist appearances, and ISSMA Concert Band state finals appearances with both Gibson Southern and Reitz. He's worn many hats in his educational career (5-12 band director, 3-12 choir director, 1-12 general music, 1-12 theatre arts, private lessons instructor, and accompanist) and has tremendously enjoyed them all and feels fortunate for the opportunities they have afforded him.

Emmert is also involved in other music education activities, most notably with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps out of Rockford, IL. He served as visual caption head (2005-2013), and has remained in numerous supportive roles since that time.

Rob Ferguson - Percussion Arranger / Caption Coordinator, Phantom Regiment
Director, Matrix Performing Arts - Akron, OH

Rob Ferguson is currently the Percussion Arranger and Percussion Caption Coordinator for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois. In addition to his role with Phantom Regiment, Rob is also the Director of Matrix Performing Arts from Akron, Ohio which includes two WGI indoor percussion ensembles; Matrix World and Matrix Open. Rob also serves as the Music Designer for Matrix Open and as the Design Coordinator and Music Designer for Matrix World and has since its inception in 1999. Rob also serves as the Percussion Education Director for the Ohio Indoor Performance Association, as well as as a member of the WGI Percussion Advisory Board.

Rob holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Music in Music Performance from Kent State University where he studied with Michael Burritt and Ted Rounds. He previously served as adjunct percussion faculty and assistant marching band director at Youngstown State University, and currently is the Design Coordinator for Firestone High School and Norton High School bands in Northeast Ohio, as well as John Hersey High School from Illinois, and Moon Area High School in Pennsylvania. In addition to teaching, Rob works professionally as a designer, composer, program coordinator, and consultant for outdoor and indoor marching ensembles throughout the U.S. and abroad. He is the owner of Ferguson Design Solutions, a company providing custom arrangements, original compositions for both marching ensemble and concert percussion, consulting, and design resources for marching bands, drum corps, and indoor percussion ensembles in all major arenas of the pageantry arts. Rob is also a sales representative for Field & Floor FX. Currently residing in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Rob is an endorser and clinician for Mapex & Majestic Percussion, Innovative Percussion, the Avedis Zildjian Co., Planet Waves, Pageantry Innovations, and Remo Inc.

Jen Luby - Highland Park, IL

Jen Luby has over 20 years' experience working with groups throughout Illinois as a color guard and dance performer, instructor, and adjudicator. She attended Northern Illinois University, and graduated with a BA in History in addition to studying music education. Jen lives in Highland Park IL, where she owns and operates Dayhouse Coworking. She is active in music philanthropic groups as a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Women's Board, the Ravinia Festival Association, and is a past national officer of Sigma Alpha Iota.

Ryan Pride – Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Director, Morton Ranch High School - Katy, TX.

Mr. Pride returned to Katy after completing his Master's Degree in Percussion Performance at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Prior to graduate school, Mr. Pride served as the Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director at Katy High School (2013-2017). He holds a Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Texas State University (2012) and has worked with several percussion programs in Texas and Georgia.

Mr. Pride has been active in the drum corps community as a performer (Glassmen, 2005-2006) and has been an instructor since 2007. He is currently in his fifth year on the percussion staff of the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps as the Battery Coordinator.

James Sparling - Ensemble Specialist, Phantom Regiment - Canton, MI James Sparling received his degree in Music Education with a minor in Architecture at Miami University. He was heavily involved in the world music ensemble, Global Rhythms, where he served as Percussion Coordinator and Arranger (2004-2006). This ensemble led him to perform across the globe and work with Grammy winners Glen Velez and Jamal Mohammed, Ghatam Khartick's heARTbeat, Musafir, Jeff Queen, Michael Burritt, Anthony Cirone, Indian film composer A.R. Rahman, Nelly Furtado, and Lenny Kravitz. He was a featured clinician at the 2012 North Alabama Day of Percussion, the 2016 Illinois PAS Day of Percussion, and the 2019 North Carolina Percussion Symposium.

James served as Director of Percussion at Bellbrook HS/MS (2007-2008), Assistant Band Director at Baker MS/Fairborn HS (2010-2011), Director of Percussion at Kettering Fairmont HS (2009-2013), Director of Percussion at Seminole HS (2013), Director of Percussion at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (2014-2019) and currently serves as a Percussion Specialist in the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools District.

Rick Valenzuela - Executive Director, Phantom Regiment - Roscoe, IL

Rick Valenzuela started his involvement in the pageantry arts with his high school – Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, CA under the direction of Gary P. Gilroy. From there he went on to perform with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps from Santa Clara, CA in 1983-84; 86-87; and 89. Rick earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a minor in Advertising from San Jose State University in 1991, where he was also a member of the Spartan Marching Band.

Rick began teaching high school marching band in 1989. Some of the high schools he taught were Independence High School in San Jose, CA; Gilroy High School in Gilroy, CA; Amador High School in Pleasanton, CA; and James Logan High School in Union City, CA. He also joined the Vanguard visual staff in 1990. He became the lead visual instructor 1992. After a two-year hiatus, Rick rejoined the SCV staff in 1996, and became the assistant visual caption head in 1998. In 2000, Rick became only the fourth director of the Santa Clara Vanguard in its 35-year history where he stayed until 2005.

In November 2005, Rick joined the Phantom Regiment as the Director of Development and Special Projects. In November 2006, Rick was appointed to his current position as Executive Director. During his tenure, he has served on Drum Corps International's Board of Directors from 2000-05; 2008-10; and 2014-current. In 2002, his peers voted Rick as the “Director of the Year.” Rick is also the announcer for the Northern Illinois University Huske Marching Band.

David Warren - Corps Manager, Phantom Regiment - Rockford, IL

David Warren is a native of Carrollton, Georgia and currently holds the position of Corps Manager for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. David received his undergraduate degree in Music Education from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. After graduating from college David was the Associate Director of Bands at Rome High School in Rome, Georgia for two years before starting his full time position with the Phantom Regiment in June 2019. David is also a very proud alumnus of the Phantom Regiment, serving as a conductor from 2012-2016. He currently resides in Rockford, Illinois.
