WIU Community Music School – Organ Lessons

Purpose

Organ lessons will be a new addition to the WIU Community Music School this year. Students of all ages from youth through adult who have had previous piano lessons or are currently studying piano are welcome and are encouraged to register for a one-on-one weekly private lesson. Using a "classical" approach the student will learn keyboard techniques specific to the organ as well as a history of the organ, organ registration, and organ literature. This is a unique opportunity for the student to discover another significant keyboard instrument.

Lesson Times

Lessons are taught one per week and are arranged with the instructor. Lesson times can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length.

Lesson Locations

Organ lessons are currently offered in Browne Hall on the WIU Campus in Macomb with the possibility of registration work and lessons on local church organs.

Bio - Linda Bliven Andrews received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Western Illinois University and the Master of Music degree from Northwestern University. She is the organist for 1st Presbyterian Church in Macomb and has been an active performer and private teacher for many years. Her first experience with organ began as a freshman at WIU and from that point forward, changed the direction of her life. Students of any age with a piano background are welcome to experience the sights and sounds of the organ and its literature.
