Pete Jorgensen

Pete Jorgensen presented a three-part training and development workshop on "Communication and Effective Leadership: Leading with Style!" for the AHEC (Area Health Education Center) based out of Blessing Hospital in Quincy. The first session was entitled "Facing the Mirror: Self & Social Awareness," and focused on identifying personal communication strengths and weaknesses of the participants, as well as providing them with strategies for improving overall communication effectiveness in a leadership capacity. The second session was called "Controlling the Beast! Self-Management," and switched the focus from recognition of personal preferences in communication and leadership styles to issues of managing both behavior and image within the organization. The final session was entitled "The Essence of Leadership: Relational Management," and focused on developing communication competencies, utilizing effective influence strategies and exploring motivational techniques.

He delivered these workshops to three rural Critical Access Hospitals via video-conference technology over the course of three weeks in July. Western Illinois AHEC provides educational programming to rural health care providers at Critical Access Hospitals throughout Illinois. Because of geographic distance and the expense and hardship of travel for providers, Western Illinois AHEC offers many of its programs through live video conference hook-up.
