Viola Marrs, COFAC College Scholar fall 2008 and CSD senior, attended the University Presidential Inaugural Conference (UPIC) in Washington, DC Jan. 17-21st, 2009. Viola was nominated by Golden Key International Honor Society and chosen by the UPIC committee to attend.
She received outstanding support from the Communication Sciences and Disorders department, Disability Support Services and the Panhellenic Council.

Luke Russert (Tim Russert's son) spoke to the attendees at an introductory dinner the first night. On the 18th the UPIC attendees went to the University of Maryland where Colin Powell spoke.
Additional seminars included speakers Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson together, and Mary Matalin (WIU alum 1978) and James Carville together. Mars attended the Inaugural Opening Ceremony titled “We are One” including various acting, singing, and entertainment talent highlighted by the appearance of President-elect Obama. On January 19, the UPIC went back to University of Maryland where Al Gore spoke.
On January 20, Marrs was in attendance as President Obama and Vice President Biden took their oaths of office, and that evening she attended the UPIC Gala at the Smithsonian National Air and Space museum. A local DC band hosted the event. There were over one hundred Balls and Galas throughout DC that evening.
