Hawkinson Named Associate Provost for Budget,

Planning and Personnel

Hawkinson Named Associate Provost for Budget, Planning and Personnel Kenneth Hawkinson, associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Western Illinois University, has been named Western's associate provost for budget, planning and personnel, effective June 1, according to WIU Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Jack Thomas.

The associate provost for budget, planning and personnel, which is a newly-created position, will provide leadership for the division of academic affairs pertaining to budgeting, unit planning and personnel management; summer school; internal and external program review; and curriculum development, including stewarding new program requests through the Illinois Board of Higher Education). Hawkinson will also coordinate Commencement activities; serve as University Research Council Chair; coordinate facilities management (classroom renovations, etc.) for academic affairs; and serve as the liaison to the local chapter of the University Professionals of Illinois and academic departments concerning collective bargaining contractual matters.

Museum Studies M.A. Program Approved!

The Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) (June 3, 2008) approved a Western Illinois University request to offer the Master of Arts in Museum Studies degree.

The Master of Arts in Museum Studies, which was approved by Western's Board in December 2007, will be offered at the WIU-Quad Cities campus. The degree program is designed to educate students in the history of museums and the aspects of museum work and will be comprised of coursework offered through the art and the recreation, parks and tourism administration departments, in conjunction with museum professionals at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, IA.
