Faculty News

Lisa and Nathan Miczo presented at the Eastern Communication Association's 100th annual conference in Philadelphia, PA (April 22-26th, 2009).

Nathan's paper was "Computer-Mediated Communication and the Maintenance of Geographically Close Friendships". Nathan was first author, Theresa Mariani was 2nd, and Crystal Donahue was third author. The 2nd and 3rd authors are past WIU graduate and undergraduate students (who have since graduated) respectively.

Lisa presented "Are Birds of a Feather More Satisfied Together?: A Test of the Skill Similarity Model", which was solo-authored. This paper came out of the research I conducted for a Wayne N. Thompson Professorship, awarded through the Department of Communication.

Mary Hogg, Gary Rowe and Kristi Mindrup

Mary Hogg and her teammates from the QC campus entered in the first annual "Quad City Spells" Adult Spelling Bee Competition. The team from WIU-QC won the spelling bee, which was a fundraiser for the Bettendorf, IA public library. Team members were Mary Hogg, Associate Professor of Communication; Gary Rowe, Director of Development; and Kristi Mindrup. The competition took place on April 30, 2009. Kristi Mindrup spelled the winning word, which was "spinnaker."

 

 

 

Ming-Yi Wu has published an article in "China Media Research" and she has been elected to be an editor of Newsletter for Association for Chinese Communication Studies, National Communication Association.
