WIUSSLHA (Western Illinois University Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association) held their 3rd Annual Bowl-a-thon, Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the WIU Union bowling alley from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The purpose of this event is to raise funds to purchase communication devices for assessment, training, and/or temporary use of clients of the WIU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Student members and CSD faculty form teams and each person pledges to raise $50. Disabled and developmentally delayed adult clients of the clinic are invited to participate, as well. Area businesses have been very generous in contributing gifts and certificates to be used as door prizes. This year Hyvee, Taco Bell, McDonalds, Dairy Queen, and Maurice's all contributed gift certificates. This year's event was again very successful. Over $1000 has been raised each year since the event's inception. These funds have helped purchase computerized devices that can be used by non-verbal clients. WIUSSLHA President Karen Durst and her board of officers Emily Zegar, VP-Internal; Kate Harrington-VP-External; Beth Moore, Secretary; and Dana Melton-Treasurer wish to thank all who contributed and the student members, faculty, and Mosaic clients and caregivers who participated in the evening's events.
